Examination of the inside of the uterus. It is performed if polyps and/or fibroma is suspected in the uterine cavity.
How
The cervix is washed with Chlorhexidine and a thin catheter is inserted in the uterine cavity. While doing an ultrasound scan a small amount of saline is injected into the cavity in order the get a precise image of the contours of the mucous membrane and by doing so being able to detect any pathological processes. The catheter is then removed. The procedure will take around five minutes.
Normal process after
The procedure may be associated with menstrual pain-like aching in the uterus and some watery discharge in the hours following the procedure.
Complications in the process after
Abdominal pain and aching in the shoulders may occur within the first 24 hours. This may be caused by some blood being mixed with some of the used fluids entering the abdominal cavity. The pain will normally desist within one or two hours. If necessary an analgesic can be ingested, e.g. Paracetamol 500 mg, a maximum of two tablets every six hours.
In the case of persistent aching the gynecologist or doctor on call must be contacted. In rare cases fever may occur, in which case a physician must be contacted.
